The aim of such use is to improve the clinical practice of nursing students in general. During clinical practice, nursing students, nurse preceptors, and nurse educators used the app daily, thereby generating new insights among them. An app, Technology-Optimized Practice Process in Nursing (TOPP‑N), was developed by the first and last authors (JZ and AAGN) in collaboration with nursing students, nurse preceptors, and nurse educators. In this paper, we present the results of a feasibility study conducted before a planned RCT to evaluate a newly developed intervention, the Technology-Supported Guidance Model (TSGM), aimed at supporting the development of nursing students’ critical thinking skills. A feasibility study, pilot study, or both should be conducted before the execution of an RCT to strengthen the justification, design, and planning of the study. However, a mixed methods systematic review revealed a lack of studies on how to facilitate the development of critical thinking using technological tools among nursing students in clinical settings.Īccording to several authors, it is essential to conduct studies using experimental designs, such as randomized controlled trials (RCTs), to determine the most effective strategy to foster critical thinking among nursing students. Immersion is a commonly used approach for supporting the development of critical thinking. The most frequently emphasized critical thinking skills in higher education in European countries are analysis and evaluation skills. However, interventions to improve critical thinking in nursing education and ways to facilitate it among undergraduate nursing students are currently debated without definitive conclusions. Critical thinking is widely recognized and well established in nursing education because the ability to identify and assess nursing care requires critical thinking.
